September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day and the Joshua York Legacy Foundation (JYLF) is hoping to Rock the World through a worldwide call to action starting in their Facebook Group “Suicide Prevention Rocks.”
Suicide Prevention Rocks was started September 4, 2018 as a method to foster healing after the loss of Joshua York. The group uses art as a form of therapy to encourage emotional expression and hope. Rocks are painted with positive messages and promote suicide prevention and awareness throughout the world. The group has over 13,800+ members in all 50 US States and 58 foreign countries on 6 continents.
On September 10th, JYLF is planning to take their suicide prevention campaign throughout the world by painting and writing positive and encouraging messages of hope and healing using rocks as their means of expression.
Rockers are asked to paint a rock, leave a rock, or exchange a rock that represents what suicide prevention means to them throughout the day of September 10th.
Should any media agencies have an interest in highlighting the Rock the World event, please contact William York at [email protected] or 443-844-4795.
Special thanks to all the members, advocates, survivors, and communities who participate throughout the world and help to support this event.
Rockers are encouraged to use the hashtag #JYLFrocks in their messaging and to include any local suicide prevention groups who would be interested in supporting this global effort to raise awareness.
According to the safe reporting on suicide standards, we encourage promotion of resources for those who may be fighting depression or suicidal ideation. If you or someone you know is struggling, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255. In immediate crisis, please dial 911.
For all members who are not based in the United States please call your country’s helplines. This information can also be found on the Facebook Group “Suicide Prevention Rocks.”
